Wow, this is tragic! I don’t follow the news much, but I had heard about the lodge burning. I hadn’t heard about the total extent of the fires, though.

It’s terrible Erik. I am not sure how the Grand Canyon will survive this……

It is a sacred place, one I was fortunate to visit and explore three times over a span of about 8 years. I’ve visited the south rim more but not since my first visit to the NR. My last trip there was a while back and I’d been thinking about the need to return. I’ma photographer and it’s a spectacular place to photograph. It is one of my favorite places period, there’s no other place like it. I treasure my time there, and did before this devastation began. I am grieving too.

You are so lucky to have visited a few times…..I have only been once and was planning on going back in October. My photos 20 years ago were dismal - to say the least. I was looking forward to really spending more time there and taking photos and just being there. We stayed at the North Rim and I wanted to spend more time there. I would love to see your photos some day…….

I’m so sorry, you must be heartbroken since you were so close to getting there again. I do feel fortunate to have spent the time there that I did. Here are a few photos from there but I have more on either my FB page or IG, links on my profile here.

Hopefully the area around the Grand Canyon gets some rainy weather to help put out some of the fires and prevent spreading, Jenn.
