What is Running on Substack?
Finding running-themed newsletters on Substack can be challenging because there is no dedicated “Running” category. As a result, readers often miss out on discovering great publications. It’s taken me a long time to find Substack newsletters focused on running and running-related topics - such as road running, trail running, physiology, ultra running, strength training, running gear and similar topics.
I want to make it easier for readers like you to find great running newsletters on Substack.
That’s where the Running on Substack comes in.
Coming in December
Running on Substack is a curated directory of running-related Substack newsletters. The Running on Substack directory focuses solely on running and running-related subjects, making it a convenient destination that simplifies your search.
Running on Substack will initially list publications alphabetically as posted but I plan to include categories to make browsing easier for you.
What do I mean by running-related?
The plan is to include newsletters covering the following topics:

Running physiology

Stage races (multi-day races)

When you sign up to receive Running on Substack, you will also be subscribed to Outdoors by Jenn - a publication developed and written by Jenn Woltjen. Jenn is known to be constantly pursuing new adventures and shares her journey with her readers. A long-time runner, nordic skier and endurance junkie, Jenn Woltjen has dabbled in running marathons, ultra marathons, climbing mountains, paddling into remote locations and skiing long distances in the bitter cold. The bulk of her professional career was spent working in finance, higher education and most recently as a running coach (known as Koach Jen to her runners).
Jenn has written and published numerous articles online for her running and fitness followers. Inspired by her high school journalism teacher and mentor, she senses a urge to remain connected to the outdoors and to share her journey with others.
As Jenn likes to confess, the journey is usually more intriguing than the ultimate destination. Join her as she shares her stories, her favorite places and the compelling people she meets as she roams locally and afar. Along the way, she may delve into deeper subjects that impact her adventures - the environment, personal relationships, challenges with aging and an ongoing battle with her sense of self.
