Very cool, Jenn. Thanks for sharing. I was fortunate to discover a little of the Northville Placid Trail this fall while hunting in the ADKs. So much fun ahead. Here's to a great 2025!

Good luck on your ski marathon in Austria this month, Jenn. Also, best wishes on your cross country ski trip to la belle province! Hopefully you have get some good food in Quebec (Poutine, tourtiere, maple syrup anything, haha)

Your hiking plans look incredible too. Looking forward to reading about them later this year.

Holy smokes, you have quite a year coming up! I'm excited to hear about your experience in Austria. My mother is Austrian. I spent every other summer there as a kid, but I've only been there once in the winter!

I admire your whole approach and kind of envy your adventures. I want to go on my first kayak tour trip somewhere. I had wanted to take scuba certification with my teen daughter but that might not happen b/c of her schedule. Like you, I also have skills development on for 2025. ABC - Always be curious. And I also aim to be outdoors no matter the weather (even if the wind today is a bit brutal to bear). More unplugged+unbound time in 2025. Thanks for this.

This all sounds amazing! I especially like making space on the calendar for unplanned adventures, so you can take advantage of the great weather windows (and not find yourself soggy and cold on a lake during the not-so-great ones).

Yes. Been there. Done that. Now that I am tied to a desk, I have more flexibility in dealing with weather issues. However, I realize that I have no control over the weather when you make long term plans. All part of the adventure, I keep telling myself. Your post on your 12 adventures inspired me to do more.

Happy New Year Jenn! Great outline for 2025. I love the unplanned adventures, I am starting a monthly "Backyard" adventure, where I explore locally things that have been here all along, but taken for granted due to their close proximity. No planning ahead, we pick a day, and then pick the adventure that suits the weather and our own inclinations.

Great idea on the strength training; after a couple set backs last year, I have put a much weightier (pun) focus on that as well.

I've done the Grand Canyon, almost every year for the past 12 years. Sometimes river and back (both north and south). Twice I have done the double cross in a day. I like the idea of just doing a one way, it would give so much time to enjoy it.

Last, but certainly not least, you said it: recovery. This is including the right fuel and the right rest; these are so important to the overall picture. The whole "sleep when I am dead" idea just encourages injury, and burnout. Mentally and physically.

I am jealous of your Grand Canyon treks. Do you live close to the GC? If I did, I would probably be hiking there at least once a year.

Jenn, I do not! I live in Wisconsin, so the desert is quite a juxtaposition of climate and topography. I am drawn to the desert, I backpacked in the superstition mountains once a year for 15 years. I have read many books on the GC. Right now I am reading "A Walk in the Park".... if you haven't, I highly recommend it! Over the edge: Death in the Canyon is also very entertaining!

Wow. Wisconsin. I am also a fan of the desert and I very excited to return to the Southwest this Fall. I have that book too.
