Weekend Wanderer: New York State Maple Weekend
Farm tours, tastings, fresh maple treats, pancake breakfasts and more
Weekend Wanderer is where I share one place or activity each week — easy, low-pressure ideas for making the most of the weekend.
One place. One plan. One good day.
🍁 Here’s my pick for the weekend
Follow the sweet smells of maple syrup to a local sugarhouse during New York State Maple Weekend, when maple producers across the state open their doors to visitors.
It’s one of my sweetest traditions of early spring in New York — a chance to see how maple syrup is made, meet the farmers behind it, and taste the season’s first syrup straight from the source. Maple syrup is a staple in my kitchen (see more below).
🍁 A Maple Fact
New York is the second-largest maple syrup producer in the United States, with more than 800 maple farms producing millions of gallons of syrup each year.
⏱️ When
Two weekends this Spring in New York
March 21–22, 2026
March 28–29, 2026
🌲 Why this works now
Maple season is one of the first signs that winter is loosening its grip. When cold nights and warmer days arrive, maple sap begins to flow. Sugarhouses fire up their evaporators, steam drifts from their roofs, and the smell of warm syrup fills the air. Visiting a maple farm during Maple Weekend feels like stepping into a seasonal ritual that New Yorkers have been celebrating for generations.

Two of my favorites farms to visit are Finding Home Farms in the Hudson Valley and Buck Hill Farm in Jefferson.

🍁 What to expect
Maple syrup tastings
Tours of working sugarhouses
Demonstrations of sap boiling and syrup production
Maple treats like maple candy, maple cream, and maple donuts
Farm stores featuring local maple products
And choose one that offers pancakes!
Every farm offers something a little different, making it fun to visit more than one.
🧣 This Weekend Wander Pick is best for
Families, food lovers, and anyone who enjoys local traditions and seasonal farm visits.
🔥 Where to warm up afterward
My pick is a maple latte with pancakes of course. Many maple farms serve all kinds of maple treats.

Maple syrup is a staple in my kitchen. I use it to sweeten muffins, quick breads and to add to sauces for cooking. Just recently, I started using maple energy products on long hikes and runs. Thanks to companies like Untapped, maple syrup has become a natural way to fuel endurance adventures. No preservatives, no additives.

Once again, I learn something interesting from you Jenn. I had no idea maple syrup was produced in New York., let alone how much.
Very interesting. Maple syrup on the run sounds awesome.
